Canine Weight Pull
Canine Weight Pull is a sport to prove strength, stamina and determination in a dog. Originating in America but was introduced to the UK, sheffield, by Steve Owen 10 years ago. There are many misconceptions to it and none are true. All my dogs involved in the sport are very friendly, healthy and much more well behaved then when I first got them. There are rules in place for competitions that are to benefit the dog and ensures it pulls of it's own free will and is not forced to do it. UKs Strongest Dog This is Seren, welsh for star, who was found roaming farmers fields. She was really emaciated and covered in feces and urine stains. Northern Rose Boxer Rescue made an exception for her and and operated on her cherry eye. She did have a lot of muscle to her but this was because she had a fused jaw and had to over compensate for it with the other dogs she was found with. She has come on leaps and bounds in her training at weight pull and is now crowned UKs strongest dog 70lb and under. She pulled 114%, cart on rails on carpet, in 19 seconds. |
BonnieAlthough a working breed Bonnies stamina isn't great. When she pulls she tires easily but this doesnt stop her from winning as you can see. You just got to know your dog and their capabilities and work with it. This sport isn't just for big breeds as little dogs do much better and get in better percentages.

Lou LouLou Lou is also UKs strongest dog in the 80lb and over section. She is such a handful, drives me up the wall sometimes. But she loves her job and is very happy to please when it comes to the sport. She is very sensitive and high strung so needs to be tired out every day or she winds herself up. Without weight pull it would be nearly impossible as she doesnt seem to like any other activity. I love her to bits but love her more when she's tired.

SidSid is a typical male, doesn't like being told what to do. He only does it for the reward at the end, a roast beef rib. He does okay at the sport but not great but i still work him as it teaches him about actions and rewards.
